Can not lock file error

Applies to:
All versions of Carmen running on Windows 7 and later. It is caused by Windows not allowing a "locking" file to be written in the directory where Carmen is installed.
Issue:
 An error message appears:

and Carmen will not open.
Cause:
This behavior was designed by Microsoft to prevent users from inadvertently making changes to program files, but Access must insert a "lock" file in the folder to prevent data conficts.
Resolution:
There are 2 ways to solve this.

1) You will need to perform this as an Administrator. Right-click on C:\Program Files (x86)\Carmen (or the folder where Carmen is installed). Select Properties, then the Security tab. Click the Edit button. Select Users (ComputerName\Users) check the box by Write permission then click Apply.

2) Move the directory Program Files\Carmen to another location on your hard drive. For example, making it C:\Carmen. Then change the shortcut icon target to the new location.
